Dear Friend,

On the journey through our turbulent times, togetherness is essential. We want this to be central in our conversation with you, our community.

At the end of 2019, we rewrote our mission, defining it as a journey. The resulting statement feels both like a compass and a map. It feels more holistic, more connected to the heart of Double Edge. It reaches farther back to our ancestors and looks farther ahead into our collective future. A few fragments rise to the surface:

To prioritize imagination. To hold space for authenticity. To face isolation. To uplift.

We are on a journey as a people. Double Edge is a vision of theatre as rite and a right: to vision, to remember, and to heal together. A belief that art in its many forms and manifestations is integral to this journey -- to our culture, to common wellness, and to our movement forward as a society. For nearly 40 years, we have held onto this. And we have been doing it, together, with you. Togetherness is the not-so-secret ingredient. Thanks to it, we keep growing, striving, thriving, and adapting.

Below this letter, you will see a recap of Double Edge’s work in 2020 as well as our mission/vision statement. Amidst the pandemic, and all the societal unraveling it has brought to bare, we at Double Edge have tried to bring to light (and to ground) every opportunity of growth possible. We insist on building an oasis in the desert.

In this time, we need you to believe in Double Edge and our impact on the journey, and to contribute as generously, as fervently as ever. What lies ahead will require us to continue creating Art, Living Culture and Art Justice. Onward!

With love and gratitude,

Stacy Klein, Carlos Uriona, Jennifer Johnson, Adam Bright, Matthew Glassman, Jeremy Louise Eaton, Milena Dabova, Hannah Jarrell, John Peitso, Amanda Miller, Travis Coe, and Cariel Klein
